I used to do a series called ostomy outfit of the month where I shared monthly outfits with tips on how I dress with a stoma. I’ve noticed over the past year or so I’ve become much more confident with dressing with my stoma and I’m now slightly less aware of it when I’m dressing. I wanted to share my thought processes behind outfits and give tips to gain confidence and worry less.
This months outfit has had so many comments on social media (and you’ve probably all seen it already if you follow the blog and my instagram) so I thought I’d share with you some of the details behind it.
Mom jeans are my absolute favourite thing. I’ve always been a skinny jean person but as soon as the sun comes out, I’m straight into my mom jeans. This pair are from Levi’s (I can’t find the exact pair but these are similar) which are so comfortable. I ended up trying on about 10 pairs to find a pair which fitted my bag properly; most were either too tight on my bag or too baggy on my waist. I found that the 29 waist was perfect for me, although I do often wear a belt after I’ve worn them a few times!
The stripped t-shirt is from Saint James and is my absolute fave top. I got a bigger size in this top because when untucked it does cover my bag. However, I love tucking tops in at the moment so it doesn’t really matter about the length! It’s lovely and soft and really good quality top.
When it comes to the tucking in style, I hated the thought of it when I first got my stoma. I thought it would enhance my bag and there’s no way to hide a blow up bag. However, the longer I’ve had my stoma, the more I just don’t care to be honest. I also think I know my stoma a lot better now and can empty my bag before it blows up. I’ve also realised that it isn’t quite as noticeable as I sometimes think! When I first started tucking in, my absolute life saving product is the Comfizz waistband which adds an extra layer of support and and helps deal when your bag blows up.
The shoes are actually from Tu at Sainsbury’s (which are from last year and not in store anymore). I love the bright colour of them and how the yellow clashes with the blue and they’re surprisingly comfy as well.
