February Round Up

Hola friends! I thought I’d start doing a monthly round up of thoughts, favourites and highlights of the month gone past. A little brain dump of things I enjoy, one may say. I absolutely love reading posts like this and I thought it might be a nice way to catch up with you guys and a way to look back on what I’ve been up to.

Compared to January, February as flown by; like seriously, where has the month gone!! It’s been a bit of an up and down month – I’ve had some great days out with my friends however my health has left me feeling a bit meh. I’ve started back on steriods which have left me feeling really tired and not helped with the flaring much. I’m also getting back on the waiting list to make my stoma permanent.

Visiting New Places

I love getting to explore new places and I’ve set myself a challenge of trying to visit one new place a month, whether it’s in the UK or not. This month I headed to Altrincham Market with my friend Lauren which was so so lovely. We took so many photos and we had such a fun day (even though it was absolutely freezing!).  Even though it was a short trip away from home (just a 30 minute tram ride) it was a lot of fun getting to explore a new place which was just on my doorstep! I think we take for granted some of the amazing and interesting places which are just around the corner. I’m definitely making it a mission to make more of an effort to visit places nearer home!

As well as visiting different towns, I’ve also being trying lots of different places out for food in and around Manchester. Some highlights have been Cote, which has an amazing three course lunch deal for £13, and Albert Schloss which does the most amazing brunch (I’m talking homemade brioche bun with avocado, maple cured bacon, cracked egg yolk, smoked cheese and chilli jam!!!). I also tried Buca de Pizza which was really disappointing and didn’t have a nice atmosphere. A special mention also has to go to my new fave coffee place (which I found thanks to Eff and Lauren) called Hatch which is on Oxford Road near my uni. It’s a really cool and unique place which is made out of shipping containers and has a real ethical vibe going about it.

Giving up Chocolate

I’m actually going to be doing a post on this in the next few weeks but I can’t do a round up post without mentioning that I’ve given up chocolate for lent. I’m currently just over 2 weeks in and it is hard! However, I’m a self confessed chocolate addict to the point where I’m actually becoming concerned at how much I eat. Therefore, I thought lent would be the perfect time to attempt giving it up as other people are giving things up too and I really want to prove to myself that I’m not dependent on chocolate. I’m actually amazed I’ve lasted this long to be honest!

I am obsessed with the HUJI app

Big up to Rhianna for sharing this amazing app last week on instagram. I am obsessed and now take about 90% of my photos on this. I just love the retro 90’s vibes you get from the photo’s and it’s definitely reminiscent of my childhood when I was trusted with a disposable for the first time! There’s a real homey vibe to the photos which I love and now my insta stories is just this style (and they’re creeping onto the grid as well!). I want to apologise for sharing so many with the filter but I’m also loving it so I’m not going to! Instead, I’m going to share with you a few I’ve taken on the app!

Some Netflix/Amazon Prime Picks

Let’s be honest, even before the Beast from the East hit, the weather has been pretty cold. When it’s like this, all I want to do is stay inside and binge watch a tv series. I’ve just started watching Grey’s Anatomy on Amazon Prime and oh my god it’s bloody amazing! I’m just finishing series 3 and I am hooked. I don’t think I’ve ever cried as much at a TV series; it’s so heart breaking and so easy to get emotionally invested in all of the characters.

I’ve also seen that The Bold Type is on Amazon now and it is another fave of mine! If you’re wanting a funny, heartwarming show about strong, independent women then this is the show for you!

A final favourite this month has to be Queer Eye. I saw everyone talking about it on twitter and had to see what the fuss was about. A good makeover show is always going to be something I love but this is another heartwarming show which is so genuine and shows the good in people. I’ve never cried at a makeover show before but every single episode of this show left me a bit weepy. Not only do the fab 5 give guys make overs, it’s the way they build up the confidence of the guys and touch on real social issues too in such a calm and honest way. I love it and need more episodes ASAP!

Embracing being an Introvert

It’s time to admit it, I’m a huge introvert and you know what, I’m quite content with that. I’m my happiest when I’m doing my own thing whether that’s watching a tv series, reading my book, bullet journalling, listening to podcasts or all of the above! Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my friends however after a few hours, I need to give myself some time on my own. I feel drained after spending lots of time with people and at the end of the day crave tucking up in bed with a cuppa and my book (or an episode of Grey’s Anatomy!). Before, I thought I was a bit strange but I’m coming to realise that this is when I’m happy and content and I don’t need to be ashamed of it or try and defend it.

Let me know in the comments below what your monthly highlights have been!
